Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The global refugee crisis is a huge political and humanitarian issue in our days, as 65 million people around the world are displaced, which is almost the population of the UK and it's the largest number ever in history after World War 2. Twenty million of those people were forced to leave their homes due to war or persecution, but there are also other reasons why people decide to flee their countries. Migrating in masses can hugely impact population patterns and characteristics, social and cultural patterns, physical environments and of course the economy. What is more important though, is how it affects the lives of refugees, who are forced to leave their homes and all their possessions behind and undergo dangerous journeys with uncertain outcomes. Our goal in this unit is to help you understand what it means to be a refugee, what outcomes can this phenomenon have for the refugees as well as the host countries and suggest ways to help the refugees become integrated in host societies and actually have a chance to a better life.
