No classroom is more diverse than the foreign language classroom in the Greek school today. Apart from the different racial, ethnic, social and economic backgrounds of the students, as well as differences in their learning ability, diversity is observed in such areas as previous knowledge of and exposure to L2, speed of language acquisition, learning styles and support from the students’ environment.
This workshop is a comprehensive presentation of Differentiated Instruction as the answer (or one of the best answers) to the question of how to teach in modern inclusive classrooms. Trainees will become acquainted with the basic principles of DI and the theories it is based on, and they will have the chance to study and design strategies that are best suited for DI, using given or self-selected teaching materials. They will also be exposed to DI practices in Greece and abroad through through examples and videos and they will have the opportunity to design their own differentiated lesson plan.
